Vermicomposting
Composting with worms (vermicomposting) is a waste management option that reduces food and yard waste going to landfills and up-cycles it into a valuable fertilizer for houseplants and gardens. Like other forms of composting, the organic material breaks down into a soil-like composition that is high in essential nutrients that plants need to thrive. Unlike more traditional methods, it can easily be scaled to accommodate kitchen waste in individual homes all the way up to community-wide efforts.
Finished castings can be applied directly to houseplants or gardens with no dilution or can be used as a seed starter.
Sugarhigh Farms collects waste from the local community as the primary sources of food for our Red Wigglers. The worms then produce castings which provide a chemical-free fertilizer for our garden, which in turn feeds our rabbits, our family, and the community, creating a healthy and sustainable cycle.
